Federico Longo is both a composer and pianist and as well as a conductor. 


Concatenation is his third album.  It follows L’arte del volo (The Art of Flying) and La vena giusta del cristallo (The Proper Vein of Crystal).  The latter has obtained a considerable success with public and critics ("…Composure and expressive amiability.  The composer-interpreter relies on the natural architecture of the piano framework with graceful melodies” - Angelo Foletto, La Repubblica, 23 February 2014).


As a composer and a pianist he is carrying out an intense concert activity which has offered him the opportunity of performing in important halls such as the Auditorium “Parco della Musica” (Music Park) in Rome and the ’Auditorium “Giovanni Arvedi" at the  Museo del Violino (Violin Museum) in Cremona.

He has also carried through two tours in the USA, one in 2016 (Washington and Maryland) and the other one in 2018 (New York and Connecticut).


His music is edited by Valle Giovanni Edizioni Musicali in Europe and by ApplausoUS in USA.

Biography

Federico Longo was born in Rome where he has studied Piano and Composition with Robert W. Mann.  He obtained a diploma in Orchestral Conducting at the Pescara Musical Academy with Donato Renzetti and the Wiener Meisterkurse diploma at the Vienna Hochschule für Musik. From 1997 to 2000 he continued his studies under the guidance of Gianluigi Gelmetti at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena where hi was awarded several scholarships and the most prestigious “Diploma d’Onore”.
His debuts at the Berlin Philharmonie and at the Sydney Opera House have marked the beginning of Federico Longs’s international career.
His relationship with Germany is intense.  There, on a permanent basis, he has conducted the Berlin- Brandenburg Kammerphilharmonie  in Berlin, he has put on stage important lyrical and symphonic works such as Tchaikovsky’s “Eugen Onegin” and “Dornröschen” directing the Robert Schumann Philharmonie. He has also participated with the Sächsische Kammerphilharmonie  in the Wiederaufbaukonzert at the Dresden Freuenkirche.
He is regular guest of the Festival “Rossini in Wildbad” where he has conducted the opera Le Chalet by A. Adam (2013) and the “Die Sizilianische Vesper” di P. J. von Lindpaintner (2015).
In 2003 he made his debut in the concerts of the Master Series with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, an orchestra with which he has established an important and profitable relationship which has led him to the participation to four editions of the “Shock of the new”, to the “Meet the music” series and to carry out a series of recordings for the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation).
He is a convinced supporter of contemporary music. He has conducted several world premiéres of symphonic music and lyrical operas all over the world like Flavio Testi’s “Saul” at the Roma Opera Theatre during the 2008 season.
The production has obtained a unanimous success and the Il Corriere della sera commented on his performance as being “....vibrant and persuasive with a clever and careful conduction”.
In May 2004, he created and directed the event “Concert for Ethiopia”, which reached its seventh edition in 2010.  This event has been hosted in the most prestigious Roman concert halls.
He has recorded for Marc Aurel W.A. Mozart Kv 466 in re minor and Kv 491 in do minor concerts for piano and orchestra and, for Genuin in Lipsia, three Cds with music by C. Ph. E. Bach and F. Mendelssohn Bartoldy.  In 2006, for the first Cd with music by C. Ph. E. Bach, he was awarded the prestigious prize “Kaufempfehlung” by Klassikcom.

In August 2003 he was the sole winner of the “Boris Christoff” Foundation award.
His activity as conductor is carried out in Italy and abroad with orchestras such as: the Orchestra of the Rome Opera Theatre, the Orchestra of the Carlo Felice Theatre in Genoa, Teatro Verdi di trieste, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Kammerphilharmonie Berlin-Brandenburg in Berlin, the Sächsische Kammerphilharmonie and Robert-Schumann Philarmonie in Chemnitz, Oulu Sinfonia, the Bucarest Radio Orchestra etc.


The deep relationship established with sound as a conductor over the years has created in Federico the need to break the silence as a composer and to create the sounds that express his soul. In 2013 Federico Longo’s first CD “La vena giusta del cristallo” for Solo Piano was released by Valle Giovanni Edizioni Musicali & Ottododici.” The 11 tracks were composed and performed by Longo. He has since been performing his work around the world. Federico Longo’s music is produced by renowned composer Maurizio Fabrizio, a highly regarded writer of Italian songs.

...Lo stesso Testi (presente alla prima) ha definito l'esecuzione romana del Saül come la migliore finora ottenuta. E indubbiamente il livello era ragguardevole. A cominciare dalla direzione di Federico Longo (un giovane formatosi tra Vienna e la Chigiana, ora stabile alla testa della Kammerphilharmonie Berlin-Brandenburg), che ha tenuto in pugno l'opera (orchestralmente assai ardua) dall'inizio alla fine in un lento "progress" di tensione, curando strenuamente le raffinatezze sonore, le sospensioni allucinate, ma fornendo un risalto eccezionale alle sconvolte macerazioni del protagonista e alle pagine di più aggressiva teatralità.

Presentato l'agosto dell'anno scorso al Teatro Lauro Rossi di Macerata, prima di approdare a Roma, al Teatro nazionale, in coproduzione con il Teatro dell'Opera, Saül ha conosciuto due differenti guide musicali. Rispetto a Guillaume Tourniaire, direttore a Macerata, e alla sua concezione un po' estetizzante, a Roma un altro giovane, Federico Longo, già assistente di Gelmetti a Siena, alla Chigiana, ed ora attivo in Germania, ha impresso una visione teatralmente più incisiva e vibrante, coordinando con efficacia, al suo debutto romano, ogni rapporto tra ribalta e orchestra. Sotto il suo gesto si è ben stagliata la personalità di Saül, non soltanto in preda al timore e all'ossessione del tempo che passa ma della solitudine psicologica, nel susseguirsi senza soluzione di continuità delle dodici scene del tracciato drammaturgico, ove è chiaramente percepibile la modernità della raffigurazione della sensibilità del protagonista, nei suoi atteggiamenti nei confronti degli altri personaggi, primo fre tutti David.
